Winner of the National Federation of Music Societies
Young Concert Artist Award, Emma has travelled widely as soloist,
recitalist and chamber musician. She has broadcast frequently on BBC
Radio 3 and her debut on T.V. was in a memorable appearance playing
the Elgar Concerto in Paul Tortelier's Masterclasses for BBC 2.
Her studies took place at the International Cello Centre, at the Royal
Academy of Music with Douglas Cameron, and in Zurich and Geneva where
she studied extensively with Pierre Fournier.
She has made frequent appearances at the Wigmore Hall and the South
Bank in London, and in festivals such as Lake District Summer Music,
Three Choirs, Bath, and Wigmore Hall Summer Festival with Tamas Vasary.
In Manchester she has appeared regularly in the Quartetfest and in
the biennial International Cello Festival.
Emma is the cellist of the Deakin Piano Trio with
whom she records for Meridian. She also has a distinguished teaching
career and is Cello Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Internationally, Emma has performed in both North and South America
and been guest professor at Eastman School, New York. and the Norwegian
Academy , Oslo. She has also been a member of the International Jury
in the Unisa International String competition in South Africa.
Recently she returned from Canada where she was resident musician
at Banff Centre for the Arts .Here she gave classes and many recitals
which included premiering several new works, in particular, several
compositions by Hywel Davies
Bach has been a particular feature of Emma's repertoire throughout
her career. She performed the series of 6 suites in festivals and
cathedrals throughout the Bach 250th Anniversary Year.
Her recording of Suites 1,3and 5 is already available and the second
volume is to be released shortly. .
